A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

SV, thank you. Well this gives me more to consider as I am now concerned why a new tank and tail were required (accident). If nothing else it has made it more interesting. I will start a thread in projects with all the photos and breakdown thus far. The bike is now 50% stripped and the engine is out. The frame is cosmetically beat up but now I will take a serious look at the welds and the alignment. Thanks to all for the input.

The 78 tanks have a probably deserved reputation for rusting out a 79 or 80 tank is not that uncommon. Some PO just went the extra step and added the "smooth" tail.Checking welds on any new to you bike especially of this age is never a bad idea but the later bodywork isn't a huge red flag IMO.

I went over the full frame last night and other than paint wear and grime (and the frame cut under the right rear peg) the frame looks good. When pulling the engine I noted one odd bolt which gives me the impression the engine may have been out before. The wiring harness looks old and original save a few items and all the electrical functioned when originally tested. The rear suspension and the spoke rims have been sprayed black and as mentioned before the pipes were a custom 4 into 1 piece of junk (now in the garbage). The engine leaks oil (no surprise) and I am suspicious that the gaskets were cheap (much reading here has warned against this). Another reason I suspect the engine has been out. When I checked the compression it was on the low end (I don't have the numbers handy at the moment) and from peaking in both intake and exhaust there is work to be done. BASSCLIFF's site is a wealth of info and I plan to heed the advice. Valves and carbs will be baselined and then I will look for indications of more sinister problems (fingers crossed). The tank has a dent and will require paint (part of the plan anyway), the fuel cock is some sort of aftermarket item and stains on the engine below indicate fuel leaking (damn dangerous I suspect). It is a learning project for me...I'm about to be educated. I will start a new project post and outline my plan with many photos. I could use a few opinions and I am sure they will be offered.
Thanks again to all.

azr, no hacking..some bashing. Believe it or not the exhaust is a custom piece of junk the guy built himself. Story goes that he worked at Bombardier (thus the Bombardier serial plate attached). He cut the frame to make it fit and hacked the front mounts. Thankfully I was able to remove it all without any apparent damage. I have been taking pictures and tagging everything as I pull it apart. **seems my photos are too big. I had some better views of the frankenstein job this guy put together.

Gotta hand it to a guy that can build his own exhaust. Looks like a nice job to me.

Cs can have duals if you swap out a right side lower with an E lower and get the splitter that bolts to the triple tree. Hub is already to accept another disc. Dont know why they just didnt go dual from the jump myself.

I reference that because my "T" only has one disc. :)

The duel-disks are worth having but I guess they were thinking from the same parts bin when they came out with the "T's".
