i picked this up off ebay for $40...quite a steal. if the people selling it painted it...i sure hope it was high temp paint, but anyway, it looked good.

i didn't want to get rid of my old exhaust...but i've painted it about 4 times, and it continues to rust and crack.

and now with the new exhaust. :D

it didn't bolt up in the rear right...which leads me to think its for an 80+ GS550...but its interesting to see that 80's exhaust fits on a 70's bike.

and my just welded in O2 sensor which i'm gonna wire up to a Air-Fuel Ratio meter.

whatcha think? :)

Adam what is an air fuel flow meter. The name almost makes it obvious but i was thinking that what you did could give way to making a home made EGA. Please give me as much info as you have time for.

Air-Fuel Ratio (AFR) meter is just a sign of how the engine is running. fuel combusts best when there are 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel. so the AFR is 14.7:1.

the O2 (oxygen) sensor gives a reading to a computer, in your car for example, or to a display box that tells how the engine is running. the richer the engine is running the lower the AFR will be. your car has these installed on it usually to give feedback to the computer, but on a carb'ed motorcycle you have no feedback.

that's the display box i have. 3 wire hookedup, one to the sensor.

it'll be interesting to see how the engine is running, and it should make tuning adjustments pretty easy :)

that answer some questions Scotty?

~Adam

Yes thanks for the link--ill add it to my to do mods list

Congrats on those clean pipes, saw that on the ebay. Looks much better than the old one. Does it sound different than the old exhaust?

With the sensor, its just for tuning? Why did you have to weld it in...is it permenant? Or do you just use it for dial in type stuff...?

i can use the sensor for dial in type stuff...or for permenent. i'm not sure if i want to install the AFR meter for permanent...because it's going to display the same thing basically all the time unless i make a carb adjustment.

i think i might just make it a temp thing...i can find a bolt that fits into the O2 sensor bung so i can plug it without the O2 sensor in there. yes it was welded in Domino...but the sensor screws into that.

~Adam

i forgot to comment on the sound. surprisingly enough...it sounds like the other exhaust, just less ratty as Ryan would say. :) its still gonna be the loudest bike in our Chicago rides, hehe. :D

~Adam

I like the way your bike sounds, bbbbbrrrrrrrrraaaaaaappppppppp!!!! \:D/

=D>

too bad my old 4-1 is rusted and cracked...it might be able to be welded back again, but it would need a ceramic coating to be worthwhile ever again. i'd hook you up with it...then you can sound like meeee :D

thats all we need now is 2 rats runnin around :D :D :D :D

ryan

.......... [-X ......ooooh....

Thanks Adam, you are a generous soul....but your old pipe probably is in need of some retirement if it is as you say.......some day I want to try the 4 into 1 setup but I think my 4 into 2 Mac pipes sound pretty tough for now. Saw a Chromed out 4 into 1 Kerker for like $400 bucks new......that's almost a new bike basically. Seen Jardine and Mac 4 into 1s around 300, 250....but the Kerker is the nicest.

You know.........its hard having the cleanest gs550 in Illinois!

there's a new exhaust on ebay now...ceramic black MAC 4-1...i think he wants $170 for it.

Ryan, give in. you wanna be a rat too. :D

Why don't you guys get big-bores? Can't get the cool deep throaty sound from tiny pistons!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
