    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

new sprockets

So I am moving along on the resto/mod of my gs11ez, looking to get some new sprockets and a 530 chain. From what i have read closest to stock is 17/48, I think thats what I am gonna use for daily use.

however,

I have a track date set with my little brother and his r6 and I am planning on woopin his butt down the quarter mile. My question is, what would be a good ballpark for gearing that would be a bit more specific for strip use? If this isn't feasable let me know, Im new to this whole thing.

Do I need a seperate chain for the different gearing or would they be close enough I could use the same one.

I am planning on running smoothbores on her, which brings up one last question, would a big bore/carb change etc effect the gear ratio you would use?

hopefully none of these questions were to ridiculous, thanks in advance.

You didn't mention what kind of restomod you're doing. If it involves 17" wheels keep in mind that your gearing will drop just from that.
 
At the risk of sounding ignorant what do you mean by rollout? My thinking was that if the overall diameter of the tire/wheel combo is smaller, that has the same effect as lowering the gear ratio.

Ray means the rolling radius. The rear is almost the same diameter whether you use the skinny bias ply tires or the wider radial tires. The radials are smaller, but not by very much depending on what size and brand of radial you fit.

I meant lower gear ratio like going from a 3:73 to a 4:11. I have to admit I never did measure the diameter of the GS vs GSXR rear tire/rim combo. I just assumed that since my bike now sits lower than it did with the GS equipment that the diameter had to be smaller. Maybe it's just up front since that was a 19" rim.
 
If you wrap a seamstress tape around the center of your rear tire from the GS & measure & then do the same with the GSXR tire you will find they are almost the same. That measurement is "rollout". We were talking about the effect of gear ratio changes which would be altered by rear tire circumference. The FRONT tire won't affect the gear ratio. Ray.
 
the bike will end up almost completely stock, just had everything powder coated, got some smoothbores, and ss brake lines, 530 chain conversion, i beleive i have yoshi headers for it. progressive/hagon shocks, none of the crazy big tire all new suspension from a gsxr mods, Im going for a near stock look. po didn't know if the bike had been bored out, so i don't really know either as i don't know how one would check that short of a engine teardown.
