As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey guys!

I am brand new to the Suzuki GS & I'm pretty pumped. I found a '79 GS750L for very cheap and I pulled the trigger. Some kid had it for about a year in his garage. When he got it, it ran good. Then he tried to make it a cafe. He had trouble with it and decided to cut his loss, which is my gain.

He had taken off the airbox and put extremely cheap pods on it. That is when he said it stopped running right. I took it home and cleaned the hell out of the carbs. Slapped the airbox back on (the airbox is very ROUGH). I put new plugs on, a charged battery, and fresh fuel. It pretty much starts every time (with the kick start- the electric starter is OOS, the wiring is a wreck). After looking at the hose locations sticky, I'm pretty sure I need some new hoses.

When riding, it pretty much ALWAYS stalls going into 1st gear. You REALLY have to feather and drag out the clutch to get it into 1st. Could this be due to the missing/damaged hoses?

I am about to order some initial parts. I would like to order new vent hoses and a new vacuum hose. After reading the hose locations sticky it appears there are two vent hoses and one vacuum hose, is that correct?

What size are those hoses? Should I order just those hoses to start with? Are there any other parts you guys suggest I grab for the initial order to get the bike running?

In the long run, I want to put pods on it and make it a cafe bike. But, I would like to get it running as best as possible before I start altering the bike.

As far as tuning the carbs, I live in Florida near Daytona- so no elevation.

Sorry for all the questions up front, and thanks in advance!

When you are saying hoses, are you talking about the rubber between the carbs and engine? They are sometimes called isolators or boots. There are also boots on the air box side of the carbs. Don't think those would cause as big of a problem as the engine side can. If they are bad you need to replace them. Z1 enterprises probably has the best price for these, I think. Ray

Welcome, joelionfish.
The clutch sounds like it is out of adjustment, or perhaps you need to adjust the carbs.
The hoses can be purchased from any dealer.
Yes, there are 2 vent hoses and one vacuum hose. I would go ahead and get a new fuel line as well.
Go to the site in my signature and start reading. Lots to learn.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Thats a ton of reading material koolaid. How do you tell if the carbs are Mikuni CVs or VMs?

You have a 79. It came with an 8 valve engine and VM carbs. A 1 year model, btw, very rare.

Welcome aboard , you will get so much help here , your bike will be running in no tymes, Brian

I am only about 45 minutes south of you if you need some help. I used to have a 78 750 and I have lots of extra carb parts.

Thanks a lot guys! I am pumped! I just need some more daylight to dial in these carbs- then I can tear it down!

Whereabouts portdave? I actually live in Edgewater.

Go to USER CP at the top left workbar and you will be able to edit your signature and add a location as well as add your bike to the bottom of your page.

Like Chuck said add your location and then you will also see mine in the same spot. I am in Rockledge near Cocoa right off US1.
