I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi all,

I just purchased a used lockset off ebay to eliminate a lot of keys.

(My bike had different keys for seat/helmet lock, gas tank, ignition plus the aftermarket trunk on the back.)

The new lockset all works with the same key (all on 226) but the new gas tank cap has a problem with the dust gate on the lock --the little metal flap that seals off the inside of the lock doesn't want to open unless you stick the key in at an angle and push it to the side.

Per the locksmith they claim I cannot just remove the dust gate.

Does anyone know if this is true ?

Is it possible for me to re-key the perfectly working gas cap I have to fit the new key by moving wafers over?

Dont know, but if it moves aside with a little key wiggle then why sweat it would be my approach.

Have you tried lubricating the flap?

WD-40 is not really a "lubricant", but it might free things up enough to get them moving.

THEN you can use some proper lube to keep the flap moving.

It seems like one of the two hinges on the dust flap is broken. to get the flap open you need to hold the key at the top of the keyhole at close to a 50 degree angle and push in to get it to open. Its not easy.

Both myself and the locksmith sprayed wd40 into the lock, no effect.
