    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

oil airfilter?

i just got a uni airfilter in today and they didnt send the oil is there anything else i can use oil wise on it ?? gun oil gear oil never used one like this

A little dab of regular engine oil is OK. Just don't overdo it.

They recommend that you do not use commercial filter oil.

Instead, make up a 50:50 mix of gasoline and regular engine oil. Work that into the filter and allow the gasoline to evaporate. Install and you're done.

One word on that, its best to use mineral oil as synthetics can dry out on you once they've caught some dust. Semi-synthetic should be fine. This isn't a problem in an engine, but in your air filter its best to use mineral.

I just use WD40. Doesn't last as long, so your maintenance is up, but it's cheap and easy.
 
No disrespect intended to others but I don't understand why anyone would mix the oil with gas, I don't understand why synthetic oil is bad, and I don't understand why anyone would use WD-40 on an air filter. The oil grabs the dirt so you want something with a little body. Just dump some regular motor oil on the filter, squeeze out all the excess (using a paper towel is good to blot out extra), and reinstall the filter. Done.
 
Well, you can go out and grab an K&N pod, dump some motor oil on it, then wring it out...post a vid :)

Admittedly, WD40 isn't a very good substance for filter oil. It evaporates a little quickly, which makes application pretty frequent...BUT that's not an issue for me (I have them off once a week), and clean up and reapplication takes a total of 2-minutes. Washing motor oil from the filter media takes a long time, and I often don't have the kind of time required to dedicate to such things.
 
Stock foam air filter and K&N are two different animals, require different care!!

I'm with Nessism - 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a shallow oil pan, coat the outside, squeeze it through (don't twist or wring), then squeeze again with a paper towel or two to blot.
 
The reason I'm stating a 50:50 mix of pertrol & oil is because thats what the fellows at Unifilter recommend. And the OP has said that he has a Unifilter. Hence, I told him what the makers recommend.

The reason (they say) for mixing with petrol is to thin the mix out and allow complete and even penetration of their fine foam media without having to use force that might damage the foam element.

Also, if you have seen their individual 'pod' filters, they aren't really able to be squeezed as they have a shape-giving spring up their innards.
