I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Wow.. search for 'oil' generates more reading than I have time for.

Simple question.

Ontario/Canada based 1980 GS1100EX - new to me, want to change the oil, never had a bike with a wet clutch, want to stay with 'dino' oil (not synthetic)

Question is

What brand/viscosity of oil should I put in ? Can I just go to CdnTire
and snag a jug of Castrol GTX 10w40 and be content ?

Man.. I thought this was a hockey thread. You can get motorcycle 10-40 at Taiwan Tire. You can also get Rotella there cheaper. Check their on line flier. Sometimes they have the large volumes of Rotella on sale.

I just use the Motomaster 15W40. Cheap as chips. Never had a problem with clutch slipping. I saw a litre of Amsoil V-twin oil there for $20. Some people are easily led.

Just make sure you get oil that DOES NOT say 'energy conserving' in the API circle

The Motomaster 15W40 Diesel was my first choice on the last oil change b/c I had some potential petcock issues, as there was a little gas in the oil. Sometimes Canadian Tire has Rotella T on sale at the same $/L as the Motomaster

Yep, the Shell Rotella 15-40 Diesel oil is what I've always used. Go toTSC. They're almost always cheaper than CTC.

I've seen rotella at princess auto too. Will be switching to rotella soon after all the word on this site about it.

So how about this ? (in 10W40 grade)

Is this just a house brand (motomaster) version of Rotella T ?

Hard to tell; probably not enough info. available on it's use in a motorcycle. Rotella-T, OTOH, has been investigated thoroughly for this application on motorcycle & oil related forums, to the extent that Shell now has the 'M' classification listed on the jug, meaning the additive package is bike-friendly. Cost is usually within 4 or 5 bucks of that MotoMaster oil, at Can Tire or WalMart.

JASO MA class oil is for wet clutch applications. Rotella T 15W40 and T6 5W40 (full synthetic) both have MA approval. I have used both in the bike with no issues.

I usually grab a jug of Rotella when Canadian Tire has it on sale.

I havent had any problems with the castrol 10w40 or the rotella 15w40. The rotella is a bit thicker oil, better for summer weather imo. Just a note, if you are running the rotella and have any kind of oil leak(s) the smell of it burning stinks quite a bit:-s
