A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm thinking of doing a oil cooler soon and was wondering how many rows is good? 16 is what I was thinking but unsure?

Mine is a 10 rows.I dont want it too close of the header.
The 16 rows is almost one and half bigger.
My bike is a gs1000 too.

10 rows

10 rows

So if 10 row is enough all the better. How much temp does it drop? By the way I love your bike and I'm doing mine alot like it with the swinger upgrade and wheels and frontend. Nice job and I look at it all the time.

Thanks,If you have any question about the bike feel free to PM me.
i dont know about the temp drop, sorry.
I may borrow the temp gun at work to check when i find some spare time to make test.

When I put an 1150 oil cooler on my 1100E temps dropped 80 degrees on long rides. Was 300, now never goes over 220. I am extremely pleased.

Thanks Marc and I'm sure I will take you up on that when I start my conversion. I will get my 1100 swinger this week and plan to get it on the bike right away to have that part done and next will be to find the right frontend. (not sure which one I want to go with yet) I think I will dip into all the suspension stuff this winter so I can ride all summer and do little projects like this oil cooler set up. I think I will go with the 10 row and 6an lines so next is making or buying the adapter plate for it.

You can't judge just by the number of rows, sizes matters too (as aways).

What coolers are you considering?

earls

earls

Earls type cooler is what I was going with like many others on here.

Ditto on the temperature drop. I went from about 280-290F to 210F. Excellent upgrade. I bought the smallest Advance oil cooler from J.C.Whitney, as shown on the OldKawMan site, and it has plenty of cooling capacity. They no longer seem to sell them though.

love that

love that

I love hearing that kind of feedback and never got my bike that hot but hasven't rode it hard yet but hope to soon and want it to be ready.

There are two types of coolers: Bar and plate are the most efficient and the way to go. Quality brands will have this arrangement, and I run them on my turbo TransAm also. The other kind are, well, not bar and plate.
Earls are quality coolers and you can't go wrong with them.
If you ride in an umm, enthusiastic manner, you will produce some heat, and being prepared is far better than being surprised.
