    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil Filter Cover Stripped Stud hole

Ok all, I've read lots about people who couldn't get the studs out. However I have what may be a REAL problem. I removed my oil cover to get the filter out no problem. Except the stud at the 6 o'clock position came all the way out. When I put it back in I think I may have cross threaded it. :oops:

How screwed am I? If it is Cross threaded is there a way to rethread the holes and if so do I have to go bigger? (Or can I)

Please advise. As somehow I think I may have hooped my bike :cry:

You can use Helicoil or Recoil repairs. It's a kit you buy and you drill the hole out to a bigger size (they tell ya the size) cut a thread into it with the tap supplied in the kit and you wind in the new stainless steel thread, also supplied in the kit. Stronger than the origional. The trick is accurate preparation and drilling. Time to get those exhaust pipes off! I have done dozens of the 6mmX1.0 threads on my casings with helicoils and they work fine.
 
If you cross threaded the stud into the engine case. get the correct, stock size tap and just clean out/chase the threads and buy a new correct metric stud at the Suzuki shop or local hardware store and install it with locktite.
If you only cross threaded the outer end of the stud that holds the oil filter cap in place, simply turn it out of the block and replace with a new stock stud .

do as thay say above. get the Helicoil kit. it comes with the drill bit, coils, and install tool. thay shold have one at your local auto parts store.
