    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

oil level in forks? GSX 400E -83

Question regarding Suzuki GSX 400E -83.

Does anyone know how much oil there's supposed to be in each forkleg?
I found some figures in the web but don't really trust them.
Due to suzukis anti-dive on one forkleg there is different amount of oil in respective leg.

No one that got the repair manual? I think its the same model as gs 400e (in US).

Measure how high in the tubes the oil level is before you drain them. I would think that each leg would come up to the same level. As long as you haven't had any leaks you should have close to the same amount as was last installed.

My Haynes manual gives spec for the UK GSX 400EZ.

Right leg is:165cc
Left leg oil: 187cc
oil type: SAE 15W fork oil.
spring free length service limit: 485.2mm (19.10 inches)

ok I'm confused why would that bike be specced with different levels in each tube? :-k
 
There's anti-dive plumbing on one fork leg and that requires some more oil to fill.

Thanks, after changing the oil seals and put it together it works just fine!

Could you look up some other stuff for me too?? please please :)

How big shall the valve clearance be?
What torque shall the screws that "hold" the cams in position have?
When you open up to check the valves, is there any way to check the tension of the cam chain?

Noooo... its leaking again :(

Noooo... its leaking again :(

After been riding with 2 passengers and done som heavy breaking the antidive leg is leaking. This forkleg didn't leak before but I changed the oilseal anyway. New oilseal leaking after 2 days, and I who thought that it's better to changed it at the same time with the other one, even if it was ok!

Is there any special way to bleed the system after filling it with oil? I just pumped it up and down a couple of times before I mounted the spring.

I'm going to open the nut and release some air pressure, if there is any.

Any suggestions?
