Oil Pressure Gauge

I searched and searched but I cannot find the answer I need.

I have an 83 GS 750T and I am going to run an oil pressure gauge. I want to do this after my oil light came on due to the connection coming loose at the pressure sender. I now want more information than just an idiot light.

My questions is this: Is there a special place to hook into to get the best pressure readings on my 750? I have seen other engines having a nice spot under the jugs but mine doesn't have it. Do I just remove the current sender and hook my gauge line to that place? If I do that will I always have my oil light on?

Thanks for the help in advance.

If you want to take care of your engines oiling system you should shim the pressure relief spring. That is a very worthwhile mod, whereas the pressure gauge won't add much if any value and could actually hurt if it springs leaks.

I'm going to do all of that in one weekend. I'm dropping the pan to have a look and clean things up and also shink the pressure relief spring at the same time. What size and how many stainless steel washers is it again?

My understanding is the shim should be .060", but I don't have any personal experience, just sharing what's been mentioned here before.

Regarding the GS oiling system in general, the oil pump is keyed directly to drive gear and is very reliable. Only way the system can fail is if your clutch hub comes loose and allows the drive gear to start floating loosely. You might want to get a GS1150 clutch hub nut, or one of those killer nice, but expensive, APE clutch hub nuts, and loctite it in place. The idiot light switch is fool proof, as long as the wire doesn't fall off or the bulb doesn't burn out. I can't imagine a more reliable system. As long as the system is pumping you should be fine. It's not like the pressure is going to go down, but keep flowing. It's pretty much all or nothing so the idiot light is all you need.

That my be true but I already have the gauge and I would like to install it. Just need to know where to get my pressure reading from. My idiot light was doing weird things on a ride and I spent the whole time worried about my engine. If said gauge was there it would just be a "second opinion" as it were.
I would like to keep the light and the gauge.
