A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Old armor vs new armor

Dogma

Forum Sage
What opinions do we have on older armor vs the latest?

I picked up a replacement jacket last weekend (Tour Master Intake Air 4 to replace my old Intake), and it comes with single-piece molded elastomer padding. It IS more comfortable, and I'm sure the savings from the simpler construction were passed on to the shareholders. They carry the same CE markings, but the coverage seems quite different, especially for the elbow. The rubber pad feels like it leaves the back of my elbow unprotected, while the hard shell part seems to cover more and definitely feels more securely positioned. For the shoulder, it's hard to tell a difference, but the hard shell makes it feel like there's something more substantial there. The hard shell definitely was the last line of abrasion resistance last fall, but the rubber pad may have spread loads differently to make the Nylon jacket shell last longer. I'm sure it would resist puncture injuries better too.

Now, the impression of more protection isn't the same thing as actually more protection. What information is available on pro/cons? Google isn't revealing much. Is this old vs new, or better vs cheaper? There are certainly many options available to upgrade.

Buy smart, not fashonable

Buy smart, not fashonable

Well, the zipper has come apart on my 2008 cowhide leather jacket with armor, and I decided to repair it myself.
I crashed in this jacket, so it's well tested and I have ultimate confidence in it.
I have another newer leather jacket with perforations, the same level of armor plus aluminum plates on the outer shoulders. I consider that upgraded armor.
I bought a Knox back pad insert that fits all my jackets, so I put that in any jacket I'll be using that day.
Here's a link for a good source: https://www.sportbiketrackgear.com/knox/
