A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.
Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thanks HJ for pointing that out as I started to help him look for some parts in one of his other threads but didn't see the 500 in the parts fiche.
It would help if you spelled that last word correctly, given its context.

I did not take the engine out. Just opened the top end while the engine was still in place. There is enough room at the top to safely pull the top end out without taking the whole engine out of the frame.![]()
Hello Safwan, Welcome to the group. Your bike is a nice looker, don't remember ever seeing one like it myself. Don't worry about your valve settings costing performance or causing any damage. I would consider them to be about optimal for a GS. They will slowly but surely tighten over the miles, but you will most likely not have to adjust them for quite a while or worry about burning them. Sorry that wasn't exactly aimed at you. I don't take exception to anything you've typed and have to convictions as to your identity. The engine thing is a long running subtext around here and I jokingly proffered it to Bob as an ID test for a certain person known to troll the premises in disguise.
What a neat looking little bike. It's a shame that for the most part, we mostly get the big beasts here in the U.S.
The tick may also be cam walk..very common
"Cam walk" is an occasional noise that happens when the cam(s) move a bit side-to-side. It is usually only noticed at idle. As the engine speed goes up to about 1500 or more, the cam chain pulls the cam to center, eliminating the noise.
There is a "fix" for cam walk, but it's not cheap or easy. There is no damage caused by it. My wife's bike had it when we got it almost 9 years ago. She has put on about 25,000 miles since then, the noise has not gone away, but it hasn't gotten any worse, either.
