    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wow, after cleaning and wanting more, I figured I'd try the sanding & polishing technique which works very good. just alot of work..well kinda:rolleyes: Of course after completing 1 side..what a daunting task. I have some Mothers aluminum wheel wax from the car, think I should use it? Kinda protest it...

I have the same wheels. I "polished" mine up with red Scotch-Brite. :D
Mine were pretty neglected, so I plan to paint them.
 
Once I get some extra funds and get a spare rear rim, already have a front, gonna get them powdered coated. Then take the set off the bike and get them powdered coated as well. One set will be black, the other set not sure yet....lime green? LMAO...who knows. Oh yeah I'm going to do all the taping this time.
 
I don't have the patience for that. I sent mine away to get polished.

Polishing parts suck!!! One of my least favorite things to do on these ole bikes.
But it sure is rewarding.
 
Yea the other side went quicker! glad I did it, received new tire from UPS just as I finished, had it mounted up, now just waitin on the bearings... I went and got a couple reg.rear turn signals from CL for $30. to replace the large saddlebags for now. They're off a 82', they're plastic chrome:( will try to clean them up and mount them:)

I love polishing so much I got myself a dedicated 8" buffing motor and my grinder is a grinder again.
Yeah the signals off my 78 1000 where chromed plastic,got some close to stock looking one from PartsNMore that are metal.

I had my wheels powder coated on my current GS, but I have a couple grinders and a number of bobs, too.
 
My GS425 has spoked wheels with chromed spokes and rims. It has low miles, but the rims and spokes have light rust and pitting. I like the old school look of the spokers, but I hate chrome, and was wondering how much of a pain it would be to powdercoat both the rims and spokes. Wouldn't the chrome have to be stripped off first? I'm thinking they would probably need to be powdercoated assembled, otherwise the powdercoat would plug the spoke holes and threads.

Anyone have any experience or guidance here?

Gotta tape off anything you don't want powder coated.
 
Those sure look beautiful.
Wonder how much work it will take to keep them that way?
I'm pretty certain that my wheels will never be polished, I still got the clear coat on them I do believe, I'm happy if I can just keep them clean.
