Prolonged carb dipping

Is there too long of a time for parts to sit in carb dip?

Nothing rubber or plastic just the metal pieces.


Is there too long of a time for the rubber anand plastic bits to be in pinesol?


Waiting for some parts and have the carbs soaking I just didnt want to have them sit rebuilt with nothing happening incase of surface rust forming.



Also, has anyone had luck finding a bolt this size at a hardware store? I just need one and didnt want to place an order for a dollar bolt and pay 8 dollars for shipping, I dont need anything else.

It's best to minimize the time in the dip to the shortest possible necessary to properly clean the internal passages. The metal will turn dark (particularly VM carbs which have zinc bodies) and (for CV carbs) the throttle shaft seals are rubber so they will swell. Also, the zinc plating on the steel parts like the throttle shaft brackets (on CV carbs) will get eaten off by the dip.

I don't have experience with Pinsol but it can't be good to leave metal parts in that stuff either.

I would say yes absolutely. I left an old mower carb in an ultrasonic cleaner over night. It only had dawn and liquid laundry soap & water in it. The mix was about 1/2 cup of each detergent in a 10 liter machine. It clearly ate into the carb, the water was black. I did use heat for a couple of hours, and probably a total of 40 minutes of ultrasound. If I use heat 100F and the professional Berrymans Chemdip with ultra sound the cleaning is all over in 10 minutes. The fumes are bad.

100% prolonged exposure will discolor aluminum.

Luckily they've been out already and rebuilt, getting fuel levels set.

Yeah I noticed when I went to wipe down some of the aluminum pieces I got some grey on the towel.

Also pinesol will eat into the main fuel sender that's in between carb 2 and 3.

I'm gonna need to learn fuel leveling soon shop is a hefty fine.

Got the dyna coils in and gonna be doing them soon, ignition is replaced and on the way now.
