Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Will a stator from an 850GL fit an 82 550L? I think the 850 is an 82 as well but could be wrong.

OK, looks like it is an 83 GS850GL and mine is an 82 GS550L. According to bikebandit.com the part number is different by 1 number.

Guessing this is not possible?

The difference might be a simple as the location of the rubber gasket on the wires or the overall length of the wires.
I think the 550 uses the same diameter rotor as the 850.

Thanks, Just looked at Rick's site and he has the exact same part number for both bikes. Buddy has one from a GS850 he said I could have if needed. First thing first is to get the reg/rec fixed.

Thanks again and once again you guys rock!

If you were looking @ BikeBandit's OEM parts, remember that they don't use real Suzuki part numbers. And otherwise it's not all that uncommon for sellers to use different part #'s with the same part. Sometimes that's just to distinguish applications, sometimes for more devious purposes (so that pricematches won't work - like all of Best Buy's "exclusive" TV models ).

For OEM parts, you can get real Suzi #'s from the fiches @ alpha-sports.com then go to babittsonline.com and do an OEM part # search to see what other models that part # might also be used on. That is, IF they have the parts for that model catalogued. Your bike isn't (ask me how I know ;)). But you can at least get an idea of other models where the part in question may be the same.

Hi,

I found this on some guy's website....

Compatible Stators

CLICK HERE for a list of compatible stators and FET regulator/rectifiers for the GS850 and other bikes.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Well it appears that they do indeed use the same stator. Once it is up and going I will check the stator to see if it is bad. I got R/R order from Duaneage so as soon as it shows I will be back... haha

Hi,

These may help...

They are PDF files so you can "right-click" and "Save as..." for best results. That way you can keep a copy on your computer for easier/quicker viewing, even print it out.

According to my zedder suzuki cross reference the 2 stators are NOT compatable. They will fit an '82 650gl but not an 82 550gl. This is with part number 31401-45111 and 31401-450120 for a 1983 GS 850 GLD.

I also ran the reverse cross reference with an 82 GS 550LZ with part numbers 31401, 31401-47020, and 31401-47030 and none of them are compatible with any 850.

Thank you BassCliff! I have them saved and read them a couple times.

Well, I have $140.00 in the bike as of today. I can afford to buy a new one if need be but since I have this one I will see if it will work (if mine is bad). Will post my findings just to clear up the issue.

Thanks again to everyone for your help! If any of you ever venture to TCU be sure and say "Hi".

My only suggestion on the compatability and cross reference issue was stated back in post #3.

For those using the official Suzuki part numbers, there is a rubber gasket around the wires where the wires go through some webbing in the stator cover, toward the starter. The shape or location of that rubber gasket might be different, requiring the use of a different part number.

Aftermarket stators do not come with that gasket molded onto the wires like OEM, so their product will, indeed, fit multiple bikes that have different OEM stator numbers.

Just a suggestion, I don't know for sure. I have not worked on a 550 stator for comparison.
