    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

R&r exhaust valves and new exhaust cam

Can anyone help me out here?? I have a 1981 gs750 and 2 rockers on my exhaust side are snapped. I unfortunately just bought the bike like this. I have replacement exhaust cam and rockers from an 82. Only problem is they don't have the slot in the rocker like the 81 does. Is this still compatible?? And how do I remove and replace all this stuff?? Time the bike?? Valve adjustment?? Sorry I did a search an nothing of this nature came up. Thank you!!

As far as the camshafts goes, the one you have should interchange.

Lastly, that model GS engine is known for it's oiling system issues. I suggest you drop the oil pan and shim the pressure relief spring .060".

Thanks for the reply unfortunately I can't find anything that says how to make sure the timing is in spec after I install new cam and rockers. Any ideas ??
 
Sorry for my ignorance also I'm a total noob. What are the oiling issues I unfortunately just replaced the oil pan. Is shimming necessary ??

Your engine ate the cam and rockers. You decide on the oiling mod but I'd do it.
 
read the manual, its easy enough to do , but read the manual, there are timing marks on the cams, sprockets,and crank real easy
check out parts pictures on cycle parts nation- make sure you loosen up valve adjusters all the way "11,12"-- b4 putting in cams this way you will not have any issues with tightening them down, the book shows vice grips,and isnt a perfect way of doing it, aftermarket gaskets are fine as long as there good set, vesrah, or iso, and you should get new valve seals in it
i would use a new oil filter as well, quick deglaze on the cylinders,use a torq wrench, get one from harbor freight if you have to this is a must! do not over tighten the valve holders, tighten the head as per manual!, i would suggest locktite on the valve adjusters when you have them tight it will keep them from vibrating loose, engines fly apart because of that:eek:
kids build these , im sure you can just read, and read it again,good luck, and put a video on when its done!:D
 
Thanks for the reply I ended up figuring it out and I'm going to adjust the valves now timing was totally off I had 12 pins or something like that between the marks. Once again thank you!! After I adjust valves I'll post a vid

Dropped the pan, what do I use to shine the relief valve? Is there a write up anywhere?
