If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Rebuilding Marzocchi shocks problem

Hey everyone, I'm rebuilding my Marzocchi Strada's and have hit a problem. The shock body plug, #15, is not wanting to thread out. I've soaked it with my favorite solution with no avail. I'm going to hit it with some heat today but does anyone have any experience taking these apart?

Never taken one apart, but looking at the parts fiche, theres a nut on the end of that threaded shaft, part number 27. I'll bet that must come off before part 15 maybe?

A bit of heat and I also bought the proper 32mm wrench and off they came easily enough :) Pretty sure that will be the only use of this 32mm wrench but it's always good having the right tools. I'll probably post up a thread of rebuilding them if I get the time. I purchase a shock compressor last week to take these apart, it was so much fun I've take a number of sets apart. I've got to original Koni's apart, some OEM suzuki's and I can finally get those ugly chrome covers off my Progressive 412's.

More problems. The rebound spring, #23, on each shock is broken. I'm hoping I can find a comparable spring from some local suppliers.

Hi, got the same issue with broken rebound springs, did you have any luck sourcing replacements?

Cheers

I never checked over in Europe too hard but looking thru the internet I've never been able to find a replacement. I made new ones myself but I have no clue on the spring rating other than it 'felt' stiff :D I figure these springs are so stiff it won't matter...at least that's what I'm hoping. I've yet to put them back together.

I have reached out to a few big firms over here that make / overhaul shocks such as Hagon's and KTECH. Harris performance is close by and they are an Ohlins agent so might pop down there at the weekend and see if they have anything, will let you know how I get on.

Would appreciate that.

Measurement of my one decent spring is approx.

Length 10mm
Outside Diameter 18mm
Inside Diameter 13mm

Have found a company that can provide the following

Length 19mm
Outside Diameter 19.8mm
Inside Diameter 15.6mm

They are not far off the diameters and can reduce the length, no idea on the spring rate, have ordered these and will let you know if they are any good

Recieved the spring and they were not really suitable - thought engine valve springs would be about the same size so went to a local engine builder and found that inner valve springs from a Hyabusa are the same diameter. Cut a couple down to the right length and seem ok, rebuild shock, have yet to test. I also found some old clutch springs from a YZF750 in the garage that would also work.

I'll be interested in your results. I still haven't gotten around to painting mine and putting them back together. I threw my Hagons on the bike and am really enjoying the softer ride :o

Quick update - tried the rebuilt shocks, seem to be very stiff even on the softest preload and next to no damping - used 5w oil and the correct amount - maybe I was expecting too much or rebuilt them wrong - look nice but not very good, maybe some adjustable Hagon's, IKON's or TEC although being so cheap they cannot be that good, or can they, seen a few threads and suppose it all depends if you like to cruise or scratch ;-)
