DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ir replaces both. Connect the 3 output wires of the stator to the 3 yellow input wires on the R/R.
Red is 12V out and black, is ground, of course.

That was quick, thanks both.
I'll have a read of the posts tonight

tom, I see he is in the UK. Is that R/R available over there?

If you can get the SH -775 in the UK do it. It's well worth it.
It's quite large and you will need to modify the mount location. Mine is on the bottom of the battery box at an angle.

Well, I figured Polaris would sell ATVs there to herd sheep, etc. If Pete can get one in the land down under, I imagine he can get one. Besides that R/R that he linked to, seemed cheesey- with the SH numbering scheme.

You will find five wires coming from your stator. There are only three, two of the same color wires are twinned to go to both regulator and rectifier. The one that takes off in a loop through the headlight switch should go directly to the new R/R abandoning the loop. You will like the results of a series R/R, it will eliminate all the problems caused by the old shunt type R/R's.

OldVet66, I find your post confusing, and I have been around for a while.
Could you please explain in different words, such as:
There are only 3 wires that go from the stator to the R/R.
Although there are 5 wires coming from your stator, 2 of them are duplicates and can be combined together with their twins, which are the same color, resulting in an overall number of 3 wires total.

Something like that.

Three wires come from the stator, two have a wire of the same color of that wire soldered to it so you see five wires. Suzuki abandoned the separate regulator and rectifier setup after 1979 for a combined regulator and rectifier. All the stators after '79 had only three wires. Perhaps someone not particularly familiar with the older setup would be confused by the apparent existence of five wires. I know I was until I cut back into the cable bundle an found the solder point. I actually said exactly what you would see unless the stator was out of the bike.

Steve from this forum just installed the Polaris unit in my GS1100E using the Triumph wiring harness and it was pretty simple. Everything just plugged right in. The airbox had been removed on my bike so there was space to mount it to the backside of the same plate the original one was mounted to, we just could only use one of the mount holes. Now the bike is charging again and some of the other electrical issues seem to be resolved. I'd highly recommend that unit and harness.
