If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So I have this 1980 GS550L. Stock exhaust but the previous owner tossed the air box. So the carbs are jetted stock. It has the 4 Mikuni CV carbs. Anyways, does anyone know what jet size I need to buy? Or how many steps I need to go to make up for the increased air flow?

I'd start with 110 main jets and shim the needle.
You'll also have to come out on the idle mixture screw.

Welcome. If you are going to use emgos you are not adding any restriction to the air and will be super lean. You will need to go up several jet sizes. You can compensate a bit by making the pods more restrictive by filling the inside of the pods with filter foam. Uni foam is available in sheets from good bike stores. Alternatively you may be able to find something in the lawn tractor section at Lowes. Don't forget to oil the foam.

Emgos are, unfortunately, all show and no go. No air restriction and thus no filtering either. K&N would be much better but, of course, more pricey.

I wouldn't start fiddling with jets until you sort the pods or you will be chasing your tail. Trust me, been there etc. etc.

Good luck with the project.

cheers,
Spyug

I recently put a set of Emgos on my GS1100GL. I plan on switching up to the K&N pods later on when I have some spare cash.

I am very comfortable with jetting and playing with carbs but I went straight for the DynoJet stage 3 kit. Doing it this way was definitely a bit more money but the bike was in running condition straight away. I would have been chasing jet sizes for weeks without the kit not to mention that the stock needle doesn't have the same taper of the DJ version.

Just spring for the DJ stage 3 kit. Well worth it.

They dont make one for my bike. But they do for an 82 which should work since according to my Haynes manual uses the same carbs. I emailed em with the carb model to confirm. Hopefully that works. The bike wont be ridden much this year. Going to do some paint and whatnot over winter, but want to get in a few miles.

The 550M kit will work. Several members here have bought it and reported good results.

I think I will toss the Emgos and go with a set of the K&N filters as mentioned.
