    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Replacement oil pump?

If I remember correctly, the 1100 is a roller-bearing engine.
In that case, a "high-pressure" oil pump would only need 15-20 psi to qualify.

These roller-bearing engines only need large volumes of low-pressure oil flowing through the rollers to keep them cool. They have enough pressure to keep the cams from touching their bearings, but don't need the 60 pounds or so that we are used to seeing in car engines.

I don't see a pressure spec in my Clymer manual, but I think it is in the 7-12 psi range.

Just remove the stock oil pump gears and replace with gears from a GS 750 4 valve model. I think most guys that race with a gs motor do it.

The gears from the 2 valve 750 motor will also work.

Just thought that I might remind you that the LT is a chain drive 16 valve motor. My only concerne is getting enough oil to the top end.

Yep, I got an '81 1100E, same motor. There is no way to put a "high pressure" oil pump on the motor. It's a matter of volume, thus the use of different gears to increase the amount of oil flowing, not the pressure. Kind of like when you have a garden hose with no nozzle - you can keep opening the water valve, more water keeps coming out but the pressure doesn't increase much, if at all. The only way to increase pressure would be to place restrictions in the oil galleys and that is counterproductive to what you want.

The 16 valve 750 motor, while it looks VERY similar to the 16 valve 1100 motor, has an entirely different oil system. Because it uses plain shell crank bearings, it requires a high-pressure oil system.

If you want to insure oil is getting to the top end, you could put a top end oiler on your bike but that will only help you if you've installed larger diameter cylinder stud bolts. If you have not modified the motor, you are probably getting more than enough oil to the cams unless something else is wrong.
