I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Ricks Stator - Wrong Part?

I got the old stator off only to find the Rick's Stator from Dennis Kirk doesn't seem to fit. The mounting wholes line up, but the inside diameter of the stator doesn't fit over the little lip on the inside of the cover where the stator mounts. Also, the whole stator is slightly smaller than the one that came off of the bike.

Is this normal? Are the Ricks Stators intended to be somewhat "universal" and not seat exactly the same as the stock units?

I have a chrome cover when my model (83 GS1100ES) should have a black cover. I suppose it's POSSIBLE the cover is intended for a different model bike, and the fried stator that was on it was from a different model as well.

All this after getting screwed by a local dealer today. Urgh.

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but are you mounting it right side up? When I replaced mine, I noticed that the diameter of the opening on one side is slightly smaller than the diameter on the other side, so it can only be mounted one way.

but are you mounting it right side up?

Trust me, I've been known to do stupider things. But no, unfortunately that's not the problem.

Well, to answer your original question, I don't believe Rick's stators are intended to be universal. I replaced mine just a month ago, and Rick's is only about 30 minutes from where I live. So I drove down there to pick up the replacement myself. It's a small shop, and from what I could see, it is primarily in the business of remanufacturing from original cores. The replacement I got had the exact same part number on it as the one I turned over to them.
Sounds like your guess that the cover and and stator may not be the original for that bike could be the problem.

I can't find a part number on either the case or the cover. On the cover, there are two numbers: 60625 and 1SZZ-355, neither of which seem to be Suzuki numbers. But there is a Suzuki "S" stamped on the inside, so I'm assuming it's a stock part.

Your cover could be from a GS750. Externally, they are identical to the GS1100. I don't know if the stators are the same or not though.

Just a guess.

Your cover could be from a GS750.

I'm thinking I probably got the right part, but have the incorrect case/stator for the year/model. Dennis Kirk has never done me wrong on parts, and it shows the correct part number on my invoice.

I'm off to the salvage yard tomorrow to match up a used one (hopefully). I'll save my core and probably send it off to Tim Parrott or RM if/when the salvage stator fails me. Just bought her, and I need to ride this damn thing!
