So I've got a '78 gs1000. (Still haven't been able to fix my signature Steve) I have a pretty loud rattle coming from the clutch side. I searched the forum pretty heavily and under the clutch rattle threads the symptoms sounded exactly like mine. Rattle at low rpms goes away after 1100 or 1200 doesn't really go away when i pull in the clutch but does get quieter. So i followed the steps pulled out the basket and the back springs were loose. I drove a screwdriver into them and spread them to get them tighter, that part worked fine. I am however curious as to why there are 3 heavy thick springs and 3 thinner lighter springs. The basket apperars to have never been tampered with. The rivets didn't look worn at all. There are grooves from the plates and i think I will (but not right at this moment) have to replace the basket. Anyhoo, went back together nicely. Torqued the nut to 45lbs. New oil. Fired it up and no change at all. I don't know where to go from here. It is definitely coming from that area. But like I said ONLY at low rpms. Mostly at warm up after riding for several minutes she idles smoothly at 11-1200 and no rattle. Anybody had this issue? My mechanic said clutch will no hesitation the day I dropped it off to have my carbs sinked, but now I'm not so sure. I can salvage my gasket and oil if I take it back apart over the weekend if anyone knows what I should look for. Oh yeah and i honestly don't know what "worn" plates look like but the is absolutely no clutch slip at all. I bought new spring to put on but the old springs looked nearly new. I think the PO put new ones in not too long ago so i decided to keep the the new ones for later use.
