Running lights

Hello all,
Anybody have a way to convert the blinkers into combo blinkers/running lights.
1980 GS850GLT.

Yeah I figured out one way to do it,

Your going to need two relay's though,

when you select left or right what you are doing is connecting power to the selected light.

The flasher is always in the circuit because it receives power all the time from the Orange wire when the key is on.

So here is what I suggest,

Find the two wires that come from the signal light switch to the lights.
Cut them and connect one to one relay and ther other to the other relay. Then connect the other contact to the orange wire in your harness that is on when the key is on,


That makes the lights stay on all the time. and those contacts that you connect to are the ones that are normaly closed.



Then connect the wires coming from the light switch to each relay and run grounds to each relay for returns.


That makes your lights stay on and when you select left or right, One will stay on and the other will flash,




Now there are two issues with this.


1 your instrument cluster

2 flasher relay


1 if you only have one indicator light instead of one for left and one for right,
The one indicator will be off all the time until you select turn left or right.
If you have two lights , one for left and one for right , they will always be on untill you select turn left or right.


2 Now since your flasher has no real current draw because it is only running two relay's, your going to need an electronic relay that has 3 wires, power , ground and lights. The stock one takes too much power to make it click.





Another method would be as Nessism says and use dual filament.


Only thing you would have to do is wire up power from the orange wire to the low beam filament.


Still though that does take more power to run and when the high beams are flashing , its probably harder to see than an on off blinking light.

Hi,

There is usually an extra (switched) 12v wire in the headlight bucket, most often brown in color. Use this to power the "always on" filament in the dual-filament front blinkers. Easy.
