A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

bought a used seat off ebay for the same model/year, snapped right in and fits like a glove

won't unlock though????

lock worked fine with the old seat, bought another cos the original steel base was rotted out

what to do?? tia

Go in from the bottom and get a flat tip in and push back the latch on the lock..it may take some finessing but it will pop open. Then remove the screws holding the cylinder on and throw some oil down the barrels and work it around.

Or just pry the two sides apart from below and then realign everything once its opened.

Does the key turn the lock mechanism? If so it could just be that the rubber cushions on the seat pan are in better shape, or harder than the ones one your old seat and putting more resistance on the Mech. Try pushing down on the seat while turning the key.

the key does turn the lock mech and i can see this by pulling/pushing the back of the seat forward, opens up a ~ 1 inch gap so i can see what's going on, for some reason, the release (deff moves) doesn't go far enuff to unhook,

tried jiggling the back of the seat, and tried to fiddle with the mechanism with needle nose pliers,

looks to me like the back mudguard part will have to come off (if doable) to get access from the bottom? other than that, all I see are small openings that make it hard to even see the mechanism

noticed that the 2 front of the seat bolts are accessible but dunno yet if removing those will do anything, might add that the air filter box is out (doin the carbs) so not sure if those bolts would be easy if it was still in place

i was about to go in by other means when i gave the seat a few more tugs trying diff methods..

was pulling/tugging up from the right side ..she unlatched

even better, got suzie fired up for the first time after sittin for a few years

unfortunately, 2 floats were leaking,

took the carbs apart hoping to do a quick cleanup, and verifying the floats were no longer leaking,

starts and runs great but as she warms up, the engine dies if/when going off choke

ran fine before the layup, so i'm assuming i'll hafta do a full carb tear-down deal,

anyone know what exactly is the prob? prob something plugged up somewhere

maybe i should start a separate thread on it..
