I have a 79 gs550 and Ive had a clanking noise for awhile now when i hit bumps whilst decelerating. Ive tightened every bolt twice and checked everything that moves. It is an internal sound though.
Id all but given up looking since it had not caused any ill effects, until i pulled the front sprocket off to check the sprocket nut. I noticed the shift shaft would pull out about 1/8 inch or so. It will also travel front to back but not up and down. Before i pull the clutch cover on the other side, does anyone have suggestiond for what is wrong? Could this be the cause of my noise? Ive had a few problems with the bike shifting but nothing the wrong shoe couldnt cause. Is it held in on the clutch side the same way as the sprocket side using a clip of some sort? Thanks in advance for any help.
