A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Skunk tank fitting on later GS 1000

John Kat

Forum Sage
Having purchased a NOS skunk tank a while ago, I decided to fit it on my GS 1000 XP that has CV carbs fitted:cool:
Guess what, the OEM fuel valve ( worth a pure fortune in itself!) interferes with the carb bodies:mad:
Not to worry, I decided to buy a Pingel fuel valve as it looked far more compact than the OEM model.
I got the valve and a 46 mm adapter plate and tried fitting them today.
Well it still doesn't fit without interfering with the carb body.
In fact the adapter plate has a hole spacing of 46 mm and in reality you need a spacing of 44 mm!
I had made a quick measurement before ordering but...I thought that Z1 knew better and maybe my measurement was off by 2 mm:rolleyes:
In practice I'm going to have a new adapter plate made with a 44 mm hole spacing and on top ensure the fuel valve is offset by at least 4 mm backwards with respect to the adapter plate.
I'm surprised no one else has encountered this issue?

How much clearance does it get you?
I have only a 1979 tank for my 1980 1000E.
It has the same problem.

I used one on my 80 and it cleared. Just point the actuator away from the carbs.

I got my offset adapter plate today from Z1 enterprises and in no time I had the Pingel fuel tap on the tank and the tank on the bike.
Here's what a NOS Skunk tank looks like on a later GS 1000;)
The space is tight but...it works!

Many thanks to Z1 enterprises for accepting to take the previous adaper plate back!
