A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Well I finished rebuilding the VM29 smoothbores and installed them in the bike. I could not take it for a ride, as the front calipers are off the bike and being rebuilt. It runs a whole better than it did. It idles pretty smoothly at 1200 rpms. Boy is this motor noisy, is this normal. Revving it up, I didn't hit the flat spot in the middle like it did when I first brought the bike home. There is smoke coming up off the air cleaners! I did re-oil them after cleaning them, so maybe this is why??? What do the carb gurus think, normal or not. I guess I will have a better idea after riding the bike. But I am going to smell everytime I come back from a ride. Maybe this bike is going to me more of a project than what I anticipated.

I started the bike up after about a 1/2 hour of it being off. I don't see smoke anymore, and it seems like it is running good. So I will just have to wait and see how she runs out on the road. The cleaning did wonders. I benched synced the carbs, and turned the air screws out a full turn. It idles good. :D

Do you know what the sizes of the jets are you are using in the carbs?

When I purchase the bike a fews back, it was running rich, plugs were sooty. And it really stumbled in the midrange. The carbs were filthy, so I started there. After reading some things in the garage section, I think I am going to check the voltage at the coils to see if there is proper voltage there. I guess the rich condiion could have also been caused by a weak spark.

one thing i did notice on my 1k when running stock coils and 29's was there would be a little bit of roughness on idle. After installing some accel coils it cleared everything up and started faster. I think the 29's deliver a little richer fuel charge in general and the hotter spark helps burn it up.

Well I checked the voltage to the coil, measured 8VDC, and there was 12VDC at the battery. Guess I am going to have to do the coil relay mod. I also have a low output stator. It produces 60VAC at around 5k rpms. Should I get a new stator??? I do notice that the headlight is dim. Well there goes another $100.
