A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I couldn't resist calling this build project "greenhorn" ...thanks Chuck for the idea LOL. Kinda stuck with me after my rocky intro onto this forum. I would like to thank everyone for the advice as I've dug into this former really rough machine. Not quite finished yet.....still got the finishing touches and wiring to complete.

Pretty cool ride. What bars are those?
They look like clip ons to me.

It also looks like the bike started life as an L model. Great job :).

Where did you get the Lucky 13 side covers? I think they are a motorcycle club.

One very cool looking GS. Nice job.

After reading your initial post in this thread I had to go back and read your "struck oil" thread to see your rocky start. Too funny. Sometimes Chuck needs a nap :). So did the JB Weld hold? No leaking?

The bars are clip ons that I purchased off ebay. They are not extremely good quality, but for a budget cafe build are quite acceptable. The bike pics don't due the bike justice. I have to get it out this coming week for some better shots. Most are surprised when I tell them it is an 82.

The side covers where made out of stainless stove burner covers. They were an idea to replicate number plates. I am not very fond of them after going with black paint so they will be replaced with fabricated side covers to hide the battery.

I ran the bike for a while after the re-tap, and addition of new stud with j/b weld surrounding the threads. After a couple hundred miles, no evidence of any issue. Long term, if it fails I will pull the head. At this point, I think I have it licked.

Just gotta finish the new wiring harness and I will get better pics up. The pics just don't flatter the finish.

Nice work! Doesnt look low budget to me...love the side plates..very cool!
