and someone had an SV650 parked out front. I know I am biased, but I gotta say, the old girl holds up pretty well, and it got more interest than the new one.

The Tap Room holds a special place for me. I started working there as a cleanup kid when I was 14 (which means I have been there for well over half my life), and many of my life-long friends were made there over the years. That being said, it is quite a dive. Great beer selection though.

Avoid Excalibur at all cost. The average age of the O'Flattery's drinker makes me feel ancient. Sunrise Sunset makes a pretty good burger. Rustic Cabins blows. Friends of mine just bought the old Sunny's on Mack, and are hoping to open it up under a new name (Dueces Wild, so far) at the end of the month, so I will have another bar within walking distance. I am sure my girlfriend will be thrilled. The old Double Olive is a fiasco of poor ownership, and will most likely never reopen. Sierra is a good joint for American versions of Mexican food. Village Idiot is a very aptly named bar. You can't beat Marge's for a burger and a hockey game (or just about any other sporting event).

I think that sums it up for that area.

And yes, the area does look pretty good in that picture. The greenery hides the ghetto pockets in the distance. For anyone who didn't see my east side thread, the road in that picture (Alter) is one of the most striking borders between ghetto and suburb the country has to offer.

Side note: I don't know why I am mentioning this here, but two weeks ago I got to ride a new demo Triumph Speed Triple 1050 that had some performance mods done to it. It might not be everyone's style of bike, but damn! That is one crazy-go-fast-kill-yourself machine. When I got back on my bike it felt like I was dragging an anchor.

I don't know how much disposable income I would have to have before I could justify one of those, or if I should ever even try. Having one is probably like having a mistress, exciting at first, but you are definitely playing with fire, and the further you travel down the road the better the odds you are going to destroy your life.
