A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've been searching the forum and I've found bits and pieces of the answer, but not the answer. I know someone else will find it right away.:-k

I want to replace my cruddy and weathered spark plug wires and replace the caps while I'm at it. I know there's a correct way to do this with stock coils. Pry epoxy off, etc. Is there a thread where someone has done this? If so I keep missing it.

Spark plug caps. There is a few choices at Z1 and I want to grab the correct ones. Are these correct for my 1982 GS850G? Grabbed these numbers from Basscliff's site, of course.

Thanks. ;)

I have read where they dig out the epoxy, but do not have the link.
For the wires, I would suggest the Dyna suppression wires, and then you do not need the special caps. About half the price ($20) from Z1E and you are done.

7mm or 8mm?

what's the difference between the suppression and non-suppression wires?

i'll do some googling on that.

i gotta order some wire and caps today.

I've replaced HT wire in the stock coils on my 850, easy to do if you're patient enough.

The caps you list in your OP are the correct ones IF you use standard HT wire i.e. NOT suppression wire. They have internal suppression resistors in them (5k if memory serves) and you don't need both. I went to my local auto store and bought HT wire off the reel for dirt cheap. Something like this:

Use a knife or dental pick to remove the epoxy around the wire where it enters the coil. When you've cleaned it out enough the wire will pull out. You'll find a spike in the bottom of the recess in the coil on which you just shove the new wire like this:

Fix the new wires in there with epoxy or similar, think I used "right stuff" screw the new caps on and you're done.

Yep. The 7mm suppression wires come with the correct caps already. Less than $20 and you are GTG.

Finally got around to doing this over the weekend. Cleaned up my coils, epoxied new wires in, installed everything. I've never used suppression wire before, after snapping everything into place and getting the wires properly seated on the plugs, this much plug is exposed. Does that seem right? Everything feels as it should, but looks funny to me since the big NGK caps are no longer on.
