I have a horrible squeak on the rear suspension of my 85 700 E . I have lubed every joint trying to kill it with no luck . Anyone have any guesses on this . All the rubber bushings etc look to be in good shape . Thanks 70gt

How did you lube the joints? Did you take the swingarm and linkage off and grease everything?

My old 750 squeaked like that shortly after I sold it to the friend of a friend. Just about the only thing I didn't do to that bike was tear down the back end and grease things so just wondering.

I have not torn down the rear and greased all the bushings etc . But its sounding like I might be soon I have only gotten what I could while assembled . It dosent realy effect anything its just annoying and makes my bike sound like an old beater wich it is but I try to keep it as nice and well tuned as possible since I like to call it my sportster killer . 70 GT :)

Try just unbolting the shock and both pieces of the bell crank assy, clean and regrease them first before pulling off the swingarm. You can pull that all apart easily with the bike on the centerstand, won't even have to take the shock out. Did that with mine many years ago. Then come off- season do the arm pivots, if the first suggestion works for you.

Well, you didn't "lube every joint" if you didn't tear them apart for fresh grease. Seems like a lot of work but maintenance is never a waste.

I have had the same issue ever since I brought the bike home, I was able to do the squirt squirt and it went away... But now It will not! I think I will try the same NOT complete tear down this time. Sounds like a winter project...
And when it all come apart it ALL gets the polish till your fingers fall off!

Mine started again.Everything was taken apart and greased over the winter and still it squeaks. All there in my build thread. So what else to try:?:

the 83 has the same rear linkage, and I have lubed it all, pulled it apart, lubed it again, it stops squeaking for a while, then after riding in the rain or washingthe bike a few times, it starts to squeak again, :( I just gave up. It is only a little noisy, :o I think I can live with it.

Mine hasn't sweaked for years. Not since the Hagon went on it. I wonder if it's coming from the stock shock?

Dirt packs in past the seals.
The seals wear into the painted surface and let water and dust in,

When they pack up hard it squeaks.

I would tear down inspect the seals for excess wear and repaint the grooved suspension bits.

Also a completre grease job avoiding anything outside the seals that would be a dust magnetic.

I have diagnosed mine down to the shock, every joint was completely lubed when I had my swingarm powder coated. Lately it has been intermittent but the shock is getting replaced soon.
