    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Starter button issue

I'm trying to figure out why my starter button on my GS 1100 e is not working when I pull in the clutch lever and I press the start button the solenoid clicks but will not turn the starter over I replace the solenoid thinking that's what it was but still nothing checked all the wires made sure there was nothing disconnected and everything in the diagram that I looked at in my book is fine if anybody could shine some light on this it would be greatly appreciated
 
Have you tried jumping the posts on the solenoid to send power direct to starter? If the solenoid is clicking that indicates everything wiring wise to that point is okay so I'd guess a shoddy power connection or a faulty starter. Clean up all the connections with something like Deoxit then try again. If still no love I'd bet the starter is faulty.
 
I had replace the solenoid I had bought three starters and tried them all two different solenoids tried those. And yes I have jumped the posts that's how I started now I have one wire on one side one on the other and then I have a horn button that starts it. The battery light is on because I got a new battery and it didn't have the post to hook the wire to in the middle of the new battery. But that I can't think would be a problem.

all three starter motors behaved like this? Do your lights dim when solenoid clicks?
 
Nope not at all battery is very strong and yes all three starters did this both solenoids to.
 
Get a volt meter and start checking voltages at the starter and relay. Sounds like you don't have it wired right.
 
It would kinda be hard to wire it wrong because only one wire comes off the starter and that's the power wire
 
I have this EXACT same problem on my GS750 -77. My knee isn?t that great (for kickstarting), so if someone new the problem that would be faantastic
 
Have you tried the starters out of the bike?? Pop open the car hood and use jumper cables. Ground to the starter housing and hot to the terminal the bikes cable would hook to. See if they will even spin before installing in the bike. If they work on the car battery but not in the bike, I would be thinking improper voltage to the starter or the starter ground to the engine itself. Scrub up the bolt posts on the engine and the starter flange to get a good grounding.
 
I had the same problem on my 79 gs550, when I went to push to start nothing. Everything was wired properly so I had no idea why it was shorting. I took the light off and bypassed the clutch safety start switch and it fired up no problem. Try taking a look under the head light chances are theirs a problem in their
