A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

okay I'll check! 2 questions though, when you say bypass the harness, what about the 4th plug on the rectifier? just plug the three stator wires into any three random rectifier plugs? (inside of the white plastic housing) and also, ground out the rectifier how? I'm still new to this, please keep the flogging down to a minimum :( lol.

What you have is a regulator & rectifier combined. Typically denoted as a R/R.

There should be 5 electrical connections: 3 stator inputs (in no particular order), a power output, and a ground. If you have only 4, then either the ground is though the R/R body, or you have a two phase R/R (unlikely).

As for how to ground the unit, bolt it to the frame. Or use a jumper wire from the body of the unit to the frame (or battery neg. terminal).

Hope this helps.

Ed there are a lot of harpy single phase r/r out there.

i fixed her! now i just need to some how find a clutch cover gasket and possibly a petcock :)

haha of course! and i looked at the wires leading from the rectifier to the white plastic housing and it was yellow yellow yellow RED. Put the stator wires connected to the harness to yellow yellow yellow and the remaining power wire which i traced back to the red wire on the rectifier's red wire. It was just a matter of me figuring out the whole "stator is yellow", "red is power". :) have any ideas where i could find those parts by the way? I can't wait to bring her to work and wash her up and make her pretty. I will post pics too!

If there is no black wire, then the case of the R/R has to be ground and make sure it is connected to the battery and frame.

to everyone that contributed: thank you so much for your help, you guys made this a lot easier and helped make my day, and probably my summer.

There was a black wire that leaded back to the fuse box. Connected that too from the start :) but i checked with my multimeter, getting 13-14 Volts while operating.

I understand you are overjoyed to have it running, but you need to do some basic checks. Look in my signature under Quick Test and perform those tests and report the numbers. You also do the measurements at the battery and not the R/R.

I did do the measurements at the battery terminals. I will run through the tests tomorrow and report the results after work, I actually have glanced at them and used them as a guide when I started having problems :)

There are subtle things to look for in the comparison of how the voltages vary and compare as you step through the test. The is still further diagnostic info I can usually glean from the data provided. The standard diagnostics are only for the most prevalent problems.
