DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello,

I have just had my cylinder head on my GS450 serviced, with polishing the cams, cam shells, adjusted valves, lapped valve seats. I decided to put in a new cam chain myself, and chose the easy way with a rivet link, so i didn't have to take apart the gearbox.
It hasn't been running very well since then, but i haven't yet found the reason why, as its an engine i have had lying around the garage for a few years.

I found out that my cylinder head gasket was leaking through the right cylinder, which was the cylinder i was having problems with, so i thought i might not have torqued the cylinder head probably. I decided to take of the cylinder head to put on a new gasket, as the gasket is probably bust by now.

I then came to this horrible sight of my newly polished cams being worn very strange... Its only worn on one half of the circle.

Thanks! I haven't yet figured out how to add pictures directly to the post, i am only able to add one. The third one is a video :-)

Can you feel the ridges with your finger nail?
How do the cam journals look?
It only takes a millisecond to make marks if theres any debris or bad lubrication.
If there not feelable (is that a word??) I would not worry but that just me.

I can feel one or two of them, the journals look fine.
I have sent them to a cylinder specialist (the people who polished the cam 500km ago), he reckons its marks from when the valves are pushed down.
He reckons its bad lubrication, so i have to check the whole system through.
