Pretty sweet day. 33F at 5:30am so I fired up the GS650G to ride to work, then for first time ever, Christmas shopping on the bike. Clearly no big screen TV's under the tree...
Anyway, about six minutes down the road the engine stopped idling, rising to around 4,000 rpm. I finished the 12 mile ride with visions of an intake boot or o-ring problem (both less than two years old). Maybe a stuck slide? Carbs rebuilt in 2016, properly stored with Stabil in system and ran nice as recently as December 2nd.
When I left work it was light out so I stopped after the high idle happened again and took a look. The choke (enricher) plunger was stuck in the two thirds on position. I punched it with my thumb and she dropped straight to 1100 rpm.
So, couple questions:
1) what do you lube the plungers with, maybe a drop of Marvel? Dry-slide? Silicone?
2) the little rubber caps that surround the plungers are stiff enough I tried to replace them when I did the carbs. I could not find them anywhere. Is there a source?
Cheers, Alan
