    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

tank badge screw plate question

I am considering removing the screw plate for the tank badge and fill it in smooth. I have read that it can be done with a dremel tool but I'm wondering if someone who has alread done it can shed more light into the procedure.
Do I use a cut off disc?
The three spot welds - are they somewhat round looking?
How exactly do I cut the spot welds? Do I go at them from outside or try to get at them from below the plate?

Any tips on doing this with minimal damage would be greatly appreciated.

are they far enough below the surface to just bondo over? Have you ran a straight edge over them to see if anything drags or grabs??
 
I just left those plates on as I could bondo over them without having the plates stick out.
 
I ground the bars off a tank using a fiber reinforced cut off wheel on a dremmel. You need to go really easy on the spot welds or you will burn though to the inside of the tank (don't ask me how I know). On my tank I filled in the trough with brazing alloy (and filled my burn though hole too). Bondo'ing over the bars could lead to cracking since there will be air gaps under the bondo along side the bars.

Crap. Looks like I screwed up then. Guess I better do it over.
 
The Dremel through the welds sounds scary!! I don't think I want to end up with a hole in the tank. I ran a straight edge over them and nothing drags but I think I'll try knocking them in a bit and using filler.
 
It sits under for the most part but drags a bit so I hit mine with a belt sander than bondo once I had the high points out. Also make sure you give the bondo time to set before you start in on the primer. My tank is just bondo, rattle can, and some hand painting but I like it :
