A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok so i have my carbs cleaned but now i need to get them back on the bike....a 82 650G

i picked up some silicone lubricant as i heard that is key...

so now do i get them into the engine or airbox side first...and do i/can i spray the hell out of all the rubber peices..and any tricks beyond that...i already losened the airbox and slid it back as far as it would go...

Phil

Sit on the bike, with the carbs lined up, put them in the engine first, then slide on the airbox. Make sure you attach the cables to the carb before you put it back on the engine. Also make sure all your clamps are nice and loose. Good luck.

I've never done this personally but I heard heating up the rubber intake manifolds by dropping them in some hot water makes them much more malleable, then put on some silicone and squeeze them on. Also, having a heat gun would be helpfull in warming up the rubbers too.

yah but by the time you get them all bolted back on there back to room temp again

Ok the problem in the intake boots are really hard and stiff. I took a heat gun (glorified hair drier) and carefully warmed them up a bit. In about 5 minutes, they were plyable enough to put the carbs on as described above, but with minimal effort. Actually they sliped on like butter. I was very carefull not to burn them though, and keeping the heat moving is important. Rubber does melt, but these are intended to take a considerable amount of heat in use.

Those intake pipes fell right off of my 1100's airbox when I tried to put everything back together. I think I need to glue them on to get a seal now.

hey phil don't even think about putting gas into those carbs until you get a inline fuel filter, it will save you some headaches later.

the best thing i can recomend is just patients and firm hand.

Uh oh...methinks I need to install mine at lunch today.
I'd hate to have to clean the carbs again...

Stupid me, I knew there was something I forgot...
