A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Still pluggin' away...

Started as a roller: Since found a tank(courtesy fo a fellow GS'R from this site), handle bars (I think there either G or E style?), Left side cover(EBAY) which almost went up in flames with the rest of the bike when the R/R caught on fire,(whose got a right cover?). Chain guard from my 80 750L project as well as fender, rear light and headlight ears. Headlight bucket of an 83 1100(looking for headlamp and trim ring). Left switch needed(whose bidding against me on EBAY?)

Carbs rebuilt, brakes rebuilt(notice the rag soaking up the pesky oil leak from stator cover) which I think have determined is coming from the stator wire grommet leaking in to the cavity and then out a bolt hole? New sprockets and chain. Tires needed.

Runs, but not well no airbox(can't find one). K&N pods on the way. Jetted to 115 main and 45 pilot with a 170 air jet...see if it's close? Valve adjustment coming up. New fork seals on the horizon.

PODS in...where do I go from here?

Got the K&N pods on...jetting not close? Anyone got an opinion about the jets I need? Bigger for sure but how big????

I would get a Dynojet kit. Do you have stock pipes?

Without the Dynojet kit I'd start with 122.5 mains, shim the needle one notch (two washers) and go up to 47.5 on the pilot jets.
The idle mixture screws will also need to come out. (richen)

To shim the needle find some washers that match the ones that already exist under the clip on the needle. Stack the washers over the clip to the same heigth as with the spacer. Remove two and that's richening the needle circuit one notch. If you still have a stumble with roll on throttle keep removing washers until it smooths out.
This will get you started.
The 170 pilot air jets will be fine.

Thanks

Thanks

Pipes are stock except for a hole drilled in baffle. I have the mixture screws backed out 3.5 turns...still runnin' lean(popping etc.) idles better with some choke. 1/2 to full throttle bogs real bad-lean I am assuming.

If I can get it to idle properly and roll to half throttle I figure I have the screws and the pilots set...right?

I'm at 5000ft elevation too which might make a difference.

I will pick up some 47.5 and 122.5 and give them a try. Might get a little bigger in case I need them?

K&N recomended a 15% increase in jet size at sea level and not worrying about the air jet which it seems you concur?

The 47.5 pilot jets will get rid of the popping.
I do think the 122.5 is a good starting point. They might be a bit rich at your elevation but plug chops will tell the tale.
Any local places that sell jets? They might even swap.
