    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Spitfires and RoadRiders in the same thread?
There is no comparison.
RoadRiders are made of glue.
Spitfires are made of greasy popsicle sticks. As a bonus, you can spin the wheel on every paint stripe.

i run spitfires on my gs750. can't really compare them to anything though since I just got the bike and hadn't ridden it with anything else. Now I had an m50 that I put metzeler marathon 880's on. Those tire are awesome! The ride difference compared to the stockers was astounding.
 
I am running the spitfires and the only time they have ever stepped out on me is on paint lines in the rain, and on a gravel road, but what tire wont when you twist hard under these conditions?
I feel that they are a good general purpose street tire, offer good wet and dry grip, arent too sketchy if you find some sand or gravel on the asphalt, and seem to be wearing evenly after 3k.
oh, I suppose they arent a race tire. and they are a tit-bit less grippy when its 20degrees out

imho you will be happy with them. I regularly drag my centerstand in turns up to 100mph (no hate ppl) on them without feeling like im going anywhere other than where i want

so we got some mixed review on spitfires, im probably gonna stay away from them...
could we get some reviews on RoadRiders?
 
I run a 81 gs L. I started with a pair of dunlops on the bike i really liked them when they were new could really feel the diffrence between them and the orig tires on the bike but i have no idea how old the original tires were or what brand. They didnt suit my needs as i am rather aggressive more so on corners. I think they were a great cruising tire and would recommend them to anyone that likes to cruise at a good speed. I switched over to bridgstone battleaxe because of my aggressiveness and i have to say they have a great bite on corners "had to remove my centerstand the first week of putting them on" Really full of confidence with them on I tend to wear through them really fast though 2.5 sets a year. I would make my choice by the type of rideing you intend to do. A softer compound tire will wear faster yet give you better bite. A tire with a harder compound will last longer but may be more prone to slipping in adverse conditions. Dont skimp because of price though a good set of tires will mean the diffrence between you and the pavement in some situations. Now when looking to buy tires there is a speed rating for diffrent tires and tires have a date stamp. You want the youngest tires you can get. there is proably a older post here with a rating chart and one with information on the date stamp. Little more advice though if you dont already own a bike jack buy one. I get my rubber mounted on the rims at my local suzuki dealer but i take the tires off the bike myself it saves me $50 bucks per tire the price i paid for the bike jack was made up on my first tire change. I bealive on my 750 its pretty easy just unbolt the two back muffler to frame bolts under the rear footpegs one bolt on each side so you can get to lower shock bolts jack bike to where you are just starting to put pressure on mufflers remove lower shock bolts start jacking bike up. That will raise the bike yet the rear tire will stay on the ground so you can pull axle without mufflers being in way. Almost forgot this part. After removing lower shock bolts lift up on shocks reinsert bolts through shocks use bungy or small peice of rope to keep shocks out of way. I hope this helps.
Andy PS if i could have redone the buying of the bike jack sears had two models the cheaper one that weighed more and the slightley more expencive one that was said to be less stable. Wish i had spent the extra $20 and bought the lighter one i dont think i would have to sit there holding the bike with the kickstand up and pumping the jack at same time...
 
I ordered Avon Roadriders from Pete's on Tuesday and they said they had the sizes I needed instock. So I gave them credit card info. Then they left me a message FRIDAY AFTERNOON saying they didn't have them instock and were refunding my credit card. This ticked me off because now I had to scamble to get tires from somewhere else in time for the long weekend. Anyway called motorcycle superstore and got them for $227. Hopefully will have them by next Thursday.
By the way I asked the guy at Pete's why it took them 3 days from when I ordered the tires to tell me they didn't have them. his response... Duh, I don't know. Gotta love customer service these days.:(
 
Don't feel too bad, I am still waiting for my order to be at my door, it's now been close to a month.......and no it's not from Pete's

But the cash was taken from the credit card, I will end up getting my bill in the mail before I even get my items.....

sorry about the experience at Pete's I know even I mentioned that place for getting what you needed, I am about to make my order, now I am having second thoughts......
 
On my 1000G I have always run the combo of Metzler ME33 Lazer on the front and Avon Road Runner on the rear.
I am not even sure you can get those any more, bike has been off the road a few years now.
I used to do between 600 - 800Km a day on my bike 6 days a week, lived on it from ealy morning into the night, for 10 years.
To me, at the time, the important things were cost effectivness and good handling, this combo gave me both.
I used to run them to 20 000Km + on a regular basis.
The Metz in the front kept the front wheel planted exactly where I wanted it, and the Avon at the rear would let go earlier than the Metzler, but it was a nice progressive slide, it always let you kno what it was doing, and had no tendency to bite you.
That however in no way means it did not stick, like Tom said, it stuck like glue, just not as long as the Metzler, and it was totally controlable when it did go, dialing in a little more opposite lock would instantly keep it in line a bit "not quite" behind you.
I have no problem riding a 500+ lbs 1000G through a corner in a full blown two wheel slide from just before the apex across to the outter edge of the corner and squirting her upright and taking off down the straight like a scalded cat. 'God, I'm such a child' :rolleyes:

I think the Avon Road Runner has been replaced by the Avon Road Rider now, not sure about the Metzler.
Strangly, I didn't find an Avon on the front that great, relatively speaking.

No worries. Hopefully it was a one off experience. Another note ordering by phone they charge you more for shipping. It was $23 by online or $35 by phone. lol I am old guy that likes to TALK to someone when ordering and spending $$$ and I figure by phone I will find out RIGHT AWAY if they don't have something. Again LOL... Anyway they do have good prices. O f course that doesn't matter if they don't have the product. Any good luck and let us know how you make out.:)
