    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

You may have problems with the "dog cam" on the countershaft gear assembly.
The dog cam spring retainer has broken twice on one of my 850 motors.
When this dog cam assembly failed, the bike would act as if it was jumping out of gear and make a horrible rattle/grinding sound. This would happen when going through the gears in a "spirited" manner. It also had alot of "lash" in the driveline.
To fix it required disassembly of the transmission. Cost about $80 in parts (new spring, retainer and spacer)- doing labor myself.
The second time it happened I just bought another good running engine on ebay for $150.
I have since quit pulling holeshots and doing powershift second gear wheelys and my trannys are holding up lot better.
I put an exploided veiw of the countershaft for an attachment.

Thx alot, I went out in the garage and started stripping the bike down. Everything is off and the engine is just sitting there waiting to be lifted out. Split the cases tomorrow after work so I can see what the deal is.

I put the chain back on so I could take the clutch nut off and spun the inner clutch hub(one that the disks and plate slip over) and it has like close to an inch of play before it the back wheel catches, and also it makes the knock noise. So wonder which part is defective???? Please help, ready to take out offending part and order new stuff

If you turn the center hub back and forth left to right it will make a noise. This is normal. The inch of play, is also normal as the receiver slots on the gears is much wider than the engagement dogs. Try taking the chain off and turn the inner hub counter clockwise in a smooth and continuous circle. It should be very smooth. No clicks, pops or binding.....I think your jumping the gun by pulling the motor at this point.....Even if you pull the motor you will still have to take the clutch basket out, might as well do that now.....BadBillyB

He has a chain not a shaft drive. Transmissions are very different....BadBillyB
 
I gotta say when I saw the title to this thread, I initially was thinking of another kind of 'tranny'...:shock:

sadly its entirely sensible and NO sign of Hoom in a dress anywhere ffs...8-[
 
Well we split the cases tonight. Things look great inside with the exception of 2 things I noticed. On the sprocket shaft, The last gear which is on the clutch side has some play in it, 1/16 I would estimate, slides from side to side, not checked into it further till tomorrow, and the small gear that is behind the clutch basket(has a clip that holds it to the shaft and goes into a small housing) looks warped when you spin it, its very noticable. So I suppose that is where the vibration is coming from. Everything else looks good as new:?
 
What is the small gear behind the clutch basket called? I can't find it on bike bandits exploded views. It is on a shaft all by itself.
