    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm about to bid on a new set of left hand controls off a modern suzuki. I was looking at wiring diagrams and it doesn't seem that hard,` but then again, it's me and anything can go wrong. Has anyone attempted this before?
 
Oh and to add, this auto turn signal thing seems pretty worthless to me since I'm used to riding without it, so can I just cut this thing out of the loop completely?
 
nice thing about wiring 12v.. you can wire it up and see if it works. if it does, well sweet. if it does not, you are out a fuse. i would think, unless you already have the wiring for the auto cancel, just don't wire it up :) if you do.. why not? it's something you might get to like ! :D
 
The only thing I'm worried about with the wiring diagram is that my GS controls have 7 wires coming out for just the turn signals alone. The new one just has three. other than that the horns, headlight, and clutch switch appear identical. I'm just worried about the differences in the turn signal control units. Wheres that thing located anyway?

Can you post the two wiring schematics you were looking at? If you can post yours and the one you want to get I may be able to help.
 
Unfortunately I don't think I have the time to scan the clymers diagram... here's (a) suzuki sv diagram. Not sure what year, but I assume close enough to the other sv models

OK, didn't win.... this gives more time to research. There are definite similarities between the two.... it's really the weirdness of the GS switch that seems to overcomplicate.... with the Right, N, Center, N, and Left wiring combos. The SV by comparison is much simpler... R, L, or off (center on the GS)

wow.. if it's got seven wires, almost wonder if the front and rear are parallel and on the new ones they are assuming they are series..
 
I saw an old post some time back on how to eliminate the auto canceling turn signal. I hate mine too! I won a bid on a set of controls for a Bandit 1200 about a month ago. Plan on doing a swap out someday. Just keep in mind that some of the newer bike dont have provisions for the mirror mount.

I tried scanning my wiring diagram, lot harder than I thought it would be, but maybe this will help for comparison...

I tried typing this out 5 times but gave up because it doesnt make sense without the diagram. Essentially I think Right and Left trigger the countdown, where as the Ns are just the lights flashing while the control is counting down. I have no idea why C switch has a Y/R that goes to the control... why would the control need to know it's not on?

Is this as simple as just tying the Right N wires and Left N wires to the left and right of the new controls, or is there something much more at work here due to the turn signal control unit?
 
Is there a problem with it? I have an extra auto turn signal box.

We need to expand your anemic USA map. LOL

No, there's no problem with it. Thanks though. I just like the look and feel of my sv or other modern suzi bikes better. I hate the turn signal switch. I always hit it too far the other way or not far enough. Maybe I'm grasping at straws here but I thought it might be a fun project. Of course, depending on the complexity, then it becomes very "unfun"
 
I see. Thanks :) Well that's good news...I think. If the timer is never triggered then I dont need to worry about the wires to turn the timer off, right?

Seems to me like it should be an easy case of just linking up a few wires.... namely those shared by Right and RN for the right signals, and those shared by left and LN for the left signals. According to Bruce's post, I think this might be able to be done, unless I'm missing something completely with the turn signal control unit
