    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Twisted Tree and Forks.

I took the moneypit out for a small ride in the cold last night. I noticed it wanders to the right when you let go of the bars. Also the handle bars look crooked and the triple tree and fork tubes look a little twisted. This bike had a bit of road rash on the headlight and gauge cluster. Is there an easy way to get them straight. If I loosen the steering stem should not that let me muscle them back in place or am I screwed again! :(

If anybody in Dallas area has a proper 82 or 83 GS1100 that I could take a few notes on please let me know. If anyone wants to tell me I am crazy for restoring a 19 year old bike when I have a brand new one right beside it please do that also. :D

If anybody in Dallas area has a proper 82 or 83 GS1100 that I could take a few notes on please let me know. If anyone wants to tell me I am crazy for restoring a 19 year old bike when I have a brand new one right beside it please do that also. :D

I guess you eliminated the crown of the road causing your bike to wander to the right. Assuming nothing is bent/broken....Loosen the axle, triples(upper and lower), steering stem nut, fender/fork brace(heavy brace under your fender?), straighten/align wheel then tighten everything to specs from the bottom up...ie. axle nut/bolt, fender/fork brace, lower triple, upper triple, steering stem nut. Others may have suggestions. Your're asking this bunch about the sanity of restoring an old bike, even with a new one...surely you jest :D IMO there is no comparison to riding what one has resurected. All it takes is money to buy a new bike. Good luck.
 
Almost forgot...you need to get your 1100 road worthy so you can join us on some North Texas rides. Check under the GS Meeting place forum on some reports of our recent Hill Country soggy ride and our plans to do some rides with the North Texas group of GS's and friends.

Saw where you had bid on that gasket set the other day. I bid on it too but it didn't go through because of all the last second bidding. It was at $15.50 with about 45 seconds to go. I sat and waited until 5 or 6 seconds were left to submit my bid and found the price had gone over what I bid. Sure would have liked to have gotten that one.

I try to check for other GS forum guys before bidding, but I really wanted that set. I put my bid in with 9 seconds(supposed to have been 5 seconds) to go and still got beat. Guess his auctionsniper worked better than mine. At least the person who won it appears to have a GS and not some speculator.

I'm not in the Dallas area but I just took my 1100 down to the frame and took a ton of digital pictures in the process, so if there's something you need let me know.

As for being crazy, guess this means you'll at least have company at the asylum.
 
Twisted forks... Hopefully their not as twisted as some of us GSers!
