Headlamp shell done, two pack repaired and rough shaped...........

Quick skim with some top stop and flatted back with 240 grade paper, not to perfection but good enough...

Then many light, dry coats of satin and we're done, well pleased...all done with what's on the shelf.....:D

Front brakes rebuilt and painted, waiting for a master kit to come then build and bleed.

Look what I found in the headlight bucket!

Can't be helping my electrical issues, speaking of which, have any brits got guidance on the sidelight issue as there is only high and low on the bars yet I have a sidelight bulb in the headlight unit which looks like it was tee'd into the ignition live, but hard to tell as it all fell apart when I took the 'light shell off.
I could do the same and go with daytime running sidelights using IGN live, but if I feed the rear light it would feed the headlight as well.
I'm not sure where I stand legally on this, i.e what lights I must have for the MOT, so may need to go and see the tester.

That is the same set up as I have in mine, even down to the broken connector!

IGN on, sidelight, tail light, head light all come and the only option is Hi or Lo beam. I just got mine MOTed so you shouldn't have any problem with this set up.

Cyrano, thanks for that, so sidelight is always on, but then you can switch headlight on, then switch between hi and lo.
What was confusing me is that someone has used a scotch loc tee onto the live leaving the IGN switch direct to the front side light, but I have found a brown female bullet connector in the headlamp shell lying spare which is live when the IGN is on. I am assuming this is the proper feed to the sidelight and someone has had problems with it and thought ' stuff it I'll just tee in 'ere '.............
I think CMC at Clay Cross have a classic Jap Sunday sometime soon, was hoping to get it ready for then, think it's in July so may be away on GSXR, but that's the sort of jaunt I hope to take it to, so may bump into you or other GS dudes one day, Thanks for taking the time to reply,.....happy GS'in.!

Front brakes fitted up and bled, all wiring cleaned and protected, just charging system to overhaul and save up some pennies to get it on the road, then it'll be final set up carbs and get it running sweet and dependable.

The seat lock was loose and I found one of the fixing bolts was screwing into thin air.......so cover off, foam off and found it was a little grotty.......

So off to the blasters and then a couple of fresh nuts welded in place...............

I didn't have it powder coated as I wanted to use a Bilt Hamber treatment on it even after blasting, as I want no chance of future corrosion, then it was etched and finally sprayed black and the old , but sound cover re glued back on, and here we are, not looking too shabby I think...

Taxed and insured today 30 miles no problem.
This is the oldest bike I have ridden................ever......I think, and it's not too shabby, remember my other bike is a five year old GSXR, i'm quite happy with the old girl, to say I have only bench set the carbs it pulls cleanly and goes if you open it up, front end is a bit wishy washy boing boingy but not frightening and it's more comfy than the GSXR I could used to this............................

Valve clearances done last weekend finally, despite having a top end rebuild it was noisy when it warmed up, so I checked them and they were way out.
They had been done as the shims were new pattern ones, anyway six loose up to about 0.25mm gap and only one shim would swap.
Managed to p/x three for ?13, but had to buy two from ebay for ?16 or so but now its all quiet.
We had a run up to the coast planned for Saturday that's just gone and despite not having done the planned carb balance and set up I couldn't resist taking the GS!
Bridlington, then Scarborough, up to Whitby ( Dracula wasn't there) then over the North Yorkshire moors and back down to NE Derbyshire and home.
Bit of everything, cruising, B road blasting, the odd push up to red line! All in the company of a GSXR1000, GSX650F and Yammy Tracer, 250 miles with not a hitch, so I think I can say it's proven!

That's not me in second pic by the way, Old guy with Tracer....!
Balanced the carbs yesterday, smoother than ever so a little ride out with my son as pillion today as he has decided the GS is cool !, how can you disagree with him ?

Thanks, the pictures do flatter it a little ( as they always do ) but it got plenty of admiring looks and a couple of photos taken, so it must look good.

I'd put it at a 8/10, but that final couple would be expensive to achieve, I did it to look good but remain useable, and reliable more importantly.

I don't see me keeping it long term, I'm already looking a GS1000's ( but they do seem a big hulk compared to 750s ), or perhaps turbo-ing a 7/11, so I'll probably put it up for sale quite rich and carry on using it/improving it, if it goes, it goes..................

After a slight incident with a wall I am left with a Gs requiring a repaint on the tank, so may as well do the whole hog, any help on correct colour codes would be helpful and correct decals,............sick as parrot.

Ok, so after my little incident I decided to go for a full repaint, I have a friend with a bodyshop so I pulled the dent on the tank, bare metalled it then filled it ready for high build primer.
He then primed and flatted it, then basecoat and lacquered it.
Before I had bare metalled it I got the new graphics cut by Graham at The Image Works, in Ilkeston UK.
Great guys, went through all the GS options he had and was able to find the set pictured, not the same as it was ( Graham said it was done in paint, not decals, so can only assume it wasn't OE, as I had yet to see one with a double black/single gold pinstripe ) I think it looks more 70's with the orange in it.
You would normally basecoat, then put the decals on, then lacquer, but as I was putting them on myself and there would be maybe a week or three gap, Mick the painter wanted to lacquer it so as not to leave a long gap so the lacquer could bond, we then scratched the lacquer back and re-lacquered over the decals.
I think the result is worth it, I think the sidepanels should be black on this year/model but kept them body colour. The decals were ?35 and the paintwork ?200, so a bargain!
Unfortunately my daughter is set to go to University this autumn so the GS is last in first out, but I have put in my UK advert that a lower value PX is considered, so hoping for a GS basket case!
Thanks for everyone's help.

You've really done well on this 750. Are you selling her?

You had a great time with the ol girl.

Ed

Yep 'fraid so, For Sale, I've got three cars and two bikes, and a daughter going to university and the GS is the spare to the spare to the extra.....if you know what I mean!
Enjoyed it, still enjoy it, but it's the only one I own other than the daily driver ( and modern GSXR ) that I haven't had down to nuts and bolts, and if I was to do that I would be putting more money in I can't spare right now, gonna keep my eyes out for a box of bits long term project GS I can hide at the back of the garage, here's the two I've nut and bolted..........that I just can't sell............sorry they're cars..............

Update, GS750 sold a few years ago now, just bought a very sick 1000, think it was a pile of bits thrown together, looks like a 79 EN UK bike, gonna be a full strip and rebuild so I'll start a new thread.
Can't seem to upload pics though, I used photobucket before is this still best method?
Thanks in advance, can't wait to get stuck in!

Wow!

Revived your thread...and restarted your post count!

At least your thread was saved in the system.

Soooo, you have a 1K bike (Liter bike)?

Definitely start a new thread and post pics. I’ve been with PB forever and began to pay annual fees after free membership was up.

However you decide to post pics, keep us updated.

Ed
