Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Valve cover and camshaft bearing caps bolts.

Antonius

Forum Newbie
Hi,

I will be soon be putting the cylinder head back on my GS650, and planning of replacing valve cover and camshaft bearing cap bolts. Thinking of going for A2 stainless steel for the valve cover, and HT grade 8,8 for the bearing caps, is this a good idea, or any better suggestions?

Thanks

The stock cam cap screws have a 9 grade on them which is similar to metric 10.9 or SAE Grade 8. The stockers are nice because they have a washer built into the head.

The valve cover screw strength doesn't matter but I like the stockers best because they are hex head and have a built in washer. Lots of guys prefer stainless though so...

If bearing cap bolts have a grade 9 on them, then I better go with metric 10.9. Here in the UK we refer to stockers as flange bolts, those are the ones I'm going for.

Cheers
