Hey all,

I've inquired about an 80' 850L parts bike to fix up and ride (300 bucks). Here is what the seller is telling me. Any comments on this?

hey there,

so, can you give me the quick cliff notes on the situation with the
bike. I've seen several CL posts with it as running but not rideable. IS
it just for parts. Whats the condition. It's fine if it's not
rideable. I would like to fix it so it is. Looking for a project
bike. I currently have a GS 650 and would like to step up to the 850.

Let me know, much appreciated.

BTW, how far are you from Philly?

thanks

OK, the bike starts but doesn't run, something with the carbs I think.
Not bad condition but the VIN plate is missing off the bike so even
though have title, I was told it can't be titled cause of the missing
VIN plate on the bike itself. Motor has low mileage as well. Also has
the windjammer and is a shaft drive. I'm about a little over an hour
from Philly.

So, I would really like to buy this bike and get my hands dirty. As far as the VIN plate.... I only know that when I titled my bike (in philly) they didn't ask to see the plate itself (eh hem) on asked the VIN number.

what do you guys think.

thanks

For the VIN sticker to be missing completely, someone had to remove it, they don't just fall off. I've never looked to close at my GS, however, on my Yams, the VIN is stamped right into the head stock, along with the sticker. I'd be VERY suspect, even with the "title" as some states do not require the engine VIN to be included as part of the title procedure and therefor, the bike could easily be a hot potato. Run away, don't walk!

What's that fishy smell?

What's that fishy smell?

Mr. maro,

I'm not getting a good feeling about this one either. Maybe you'd better wait for the next one to come along.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I wouldn't worry if the sticker is missing. AS the # is perminately stamped into the steering head. As long as the #s match no problem. Depending on your state the enging # will also be listed
