    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

WDYT about this cheap carb synchronizer?

Hi All,

I'm gathering tools and parts for a carb rebuild on my GS450T (another thread already about the carb rebuild kit).

What is your advice regarding a synchronizer? I see various websites that have a dual-carb sync tool for ~$100, and then on eBay I see this:

Since I don't imagine I'll be doing this job a lot (hopefully just once or twice) I would tend towards a less expensive tool.

Also, I see some sites have a specific caliper tool for adjusting float-bowl height. Is this what I should get or can I rig someting?

their accuracy doesn't depend on the quality of the cheap guages, just gravity. You don't need a tool for setting float level, just a ruler of calipers or the like.
 
I just used the 4 cylinder version of exactly that to do a sync, and it worked well. The only tip I'd give is to hook all the gauges up to the same cylinder before using it to see if they all read the same or need to be adjusted.
 
The cheap sync tool will work just fine. You can even use the "pull one plug off and see how high the idle is" method if you don't want to spend any money - this is the method used by BMW so it's not completely tomfoolary.

Regarding checking float level with a tube, I've never done it before. I just set using a ruler measuring the float height and all my bikes have run fine.
 
That's the same version of the one I have, except I have four of them. I tested them with a Mighty Vac that I have and they were spot on. They are also adjustable so you can calibrate them. They've been making that same exact guage for decades I think.

The hose isn't the highest quality, I ended up putting new hose on mine.
