    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Weird Acceleration

When I am in fourth or fifth gear and I open the throttle all the way my engine revs up to 7000 and holds there until my bike accelerates to the speed that it should be doing at that rpm. And then the bike acceleration is fine after I am up to speed for that range. Could this lull in acceleration be due to a warn out clutch?

I was thinking about installing news oem clutch springs and new kevlar or steel clutch plates. Would this fix it?

Would new springs and plates fix the problem or is it one of those things I just have to open up to find out for sure?

Open it up. Could be a broken plate. Or you may need plates and/or springs.
 
Plates and springs would fix it. Stock suzuki plates are the very best. Vesrah's are a good alternative. Stay away from Barnett's
 
I changed my clutch only to have it keep slipping. Turns out it was an adjustment issue the entire time. triple check all the adjustments before you spend any money!

Whats wrong with Barnetts?

I have about 20K on mine and it's about to get an adjustment.
Bad experiences with them?
 
I changed my oil once and my clutch started slipping just like he described. Have you changed oil recently. Some types of oil just won't work in our old bikes.
 
I have Barnett plates as well. Have been very good to me.

When I was getting new clutch plates a couple of members and the local bike shop recommended that I not use Barnett clutch plates unless I was drag racing. EPA regulations have forced them to make changes to their plates recently and they are different than they used to be, that's just the info. that I got.

Nothing wrong with Barnett's at all, just A little grabby and "squeaky", for normal street use, that's what I heard, but again no first hand experience.
I went with Suzuki plates as well.

I changed my oil yesterday and today my clutch acts just like his - slips at the higher RPMs when I rip it full throttle. Now, I felt as if my clutch was going out before this, just not this badly. Could this be the oil I used? It not a big deal for me to drain it out and try something else - what's a known oil/brand people here are using? Should I be using "motorcycle specific" oil?

I've already purchased a new clutch kit, so I'm going to be taking it all apart, I just want to know what I shouldn't be using when I get it all back together again.

I used the Mobil Drive Clean synthetic (10w-40) because I had some left over from one of my auto oil changes.

Specifically, FULL synthetic based oils!!

I am NO fan of full or even "semi" synthetic oils.... Use a standard petro based oil, and perform your scheduled oil changes.
 
Ahh! So that was my mistake.
No problem, I'll drain that all out today & put some dino oil in there.
Hopefully that will solve my problem until my new clutch kit comes in.

Standard Barnett clutch packs are OK, but they will still be more "grabby" than anything else. The Barnett extra disc clutch pack (which I have in my 1100) cannot be adjusted to the point where it won't drag just a little. This makes finding neutral real difficult. They are good for drag racing, however the stock suzuki plates are even better.


Some synthetic oils can be used in our bikes. You cannot use anything with friction modifiers. Do a search here and you'll find all you need to know about oil.
