    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Which TDC for cams to line up with?

I have a Dynatek 2000 ignition in my bike, which shows TDC for cylinders 1+4 as well as 2+3. Which TDC do I use to set the cams to?
 
Thanks! Is it one of those standard things? Is it always cylinder one that you set at TDC or is it just 1+4 on GSs?
 
1 or 4..ON THE COMPRESSION stroke. Unsure or cant "feel" the compression by puttingb your finger over the plug hole? Then just out a compression tester in number 4 ( since you turn the crank from then right side of the bike ) and watch it as you turn the engine over. The needle will move on the compression stroke. Remove the guage and continue bringing the piston up using a dowel or something to visually see it coming up. Go slowly and just as the dowel stops coming up then check the timing mark and set it exactly. Replace the cams per the numbers on them set as the manual shows and youll be good to go.

Actually, until you install the cam, 1&4 have no idea which one is on the compression stroke.

They just go up and down together, the cam will determine whether it's compression or exhaust when they go up.

So as long as I have 1+4 at TDC I am good to go? Cool - thanks!
 
You can get a service manual off basscliff's site. What you seek is within. The 1100G engine is almost identical to the 1000. Please do some homework or you might mess something up.
 
Actually I have a manual. I follow it religiously when putting the engine together! BUT - the original ignition was different and had different markings. I have made it more challenging by using a Dyna 2000 ignition which has markings for TDC on both 1+4 and 2+3.
