    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

need help,newbie...81gs750, stored 8 years fuel left in carbs..did carb clean up per this site..finally after recleaning 5 times, will start and idle on choke only.any throttle at all and she dies..does airbox have to be on for this bike to start ? blowing thru vent hose helps to start..but refuses to idle did rod out all three air/fuel holes ,,,at air mix screw they were plugged..do you need more info than this to help..this is an awesome site, without ya'lls info i wouldn't be this far...thanx for any help..rob
 
the airbox MUST be on if you want to get it to run.Too much air and it will not even start!Put your box on and see what happens!

thanks, i was kinda leanin that way after many searches on here. i get off at 10:30 tonite and if it's not to cold in my shop i'll pull carbs and install airbox and try to start..i am making progress when i got bike a month ago, brakes were all rusted up and no start period..the info from guys or gals on this forum have gotten me this far..the local suzuki dealer thinks bike is too old to mess with ...but it only has 6200 miles barely broke in, and in excellent shape except carbs and brakes..thanks for reply, i apperciate all your help..rob

There are several of us around here,9 so far.There is a sight on yahoo called kc-gs.That's us locals.Check it out.Good luck on your bike and let me know the progress.
 
hey thanks for the info i'll look up the kc-gs site now and let you know on my bike.it's really cold in my shop right now it's in a barn so i hafta heat carb boots up with drop light to pull or put on but i'm determined to get it going. it's at least starting now...thanks again..

Hair dryer works great for heating things up also.

I always put a little wd-40 around the boot flanges and they slide right on.I think from what you described in your other post everything will be fine once you get the airbox on.Be sure to oil your air filter also and make sure your airbox has no leaks.i have to sync my carbs but it's to darn cold out today to worry about it.Sunday looks a little better and there is days of rain coming so i need to sync and ride!Did you replace your intake boots and 0-rings?If not check for air leaks if it happens to high idle after warming up. PM me if you have any problems.

If you just want to check to see if it is running reasonably well, you can do it without installing the airbox.

You need a decent-size shop rag and two zip-ties about 8-10" long. Fold the rag in half, drape it over the carb inlets. Zip-tie the rag around the throat of #1 and #4 carbs to hold it in place. If the rag is stretched across #2 and #3, it is close enough for this test. Start the bike, see if you can get any better than idle speed out of it.

This provides just enough restriction to smooth the airflow to get it to run, but I would not run it this way to do any readings for jetting purposes.
